My Brother Sam is Dead

Up to that time the war hadn't been very real. i mean i knew that it was going on because of the stories in the Connecticut journal and from tails we heard in the tavern... But none of them were people i really knew and so the war had always seemed to me like a story. To me this quote shows that how many people theses days view the present war, nothing but a story we here, and things we see on the news. I don't think people really understand how it is over their right now, because they only here stories, and stories you eventually forget after a wile, but when you see something that affects you in a way, it stays with you forever and you never forget.

My Brother Sam is Dead

"But the worst part of the war was missing Sam."
To me this quote shows what war can do to a family. It can tare apart a family, it makes you miss the one you love, and most of all it sometimes takes the one you love.

My Brother Sam is Dead

I still hadn't made up my mind which side I was on in the war, and I didn't care whether Sam was a patriot or a Tory or what. all I could think about was snuggling up to him and listening to him talk about scoring telling points.

to me this quote means that sometimes you have to try to forget about war and try to live your life, and try not to let it affect you and the people around you, because if you do, that will be what you think about most of the day instead of what is really important like your family and friends.

"I new he was wrong. He was staying in the army because he wanted to stay in the army, not because of duty or anything else…knowing that about Sam gave me a funny feeling. I didn't feel like his little brother so much anymore, I felt more like his equal." To me this quote means that if you join the army you should join it for the right reasons, not just for the uniform.

My Brother Sam is Dead

"In war the dead pay the debts for the living."
To me this quote means that the dead have sacrificed there lives for the living to have what ever they are fighting for, in this book "My Brother Sam is Dead" their own country. If it weren't for the men and women that have died in Iraq we wouldn't have the feeling of safety that we have now, and we wouldn't have this great country if it weren't for the men and women that have died in past wars.
